Earns High Praise in The Princeton Review's The Best 357 Colleges
SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College of Louisiana is one of the nation’s
best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton
Review, the New York-based company known for its education, admission
and test-prep services. The college ranks among 357 schools featured in
the just-published 2005 edition of The Princeton Review annual college
guide, The Best 357 Colleges.
In their Centenary profile, the guide’s editors describe the college
as having a faculty and staff that gives “an incredible amount of
personal attention,” and an administration that is “very open
and understanding.” They also point to a “high rate of acceptance
into medical school," "exceptional classroom facilities”
and “an incredible music faculty” as drawing praise from students.
Says Robert Franek of The Princeton Review, “We regard the schools
in this book as ‘the crème of the crop’ institutions
for undergraduate education. Each one offers an outstanding academic program,
and only about 15 percent of the four-year colleges in America, and only
two Canadian colleges are in The Best 357 Colleges.”
Centenary is ranked No. 4 on the Top 20 list for students happy with their
financial aid. Offering need-based scholarships/grants, loan aid and federal
work-study, Centenary provides financial aid to the majority of enrolled
students.
The college also received the highest possible score in the category of
campus life. According to surveys, Centenary boasts small class sizes,
great athletic facilities and friendly students. Popular student life
activities include intramural sports, musical organizations and student
government. The Princeton Review reports that some Centenary students,
randomly interviewed, would like to have an additional residence hall
and improved cafeteria food, but that students display a deep satisfaction
with campus life as a whole. “This year’s survey responses
showed a definite upgrade in campus harmony at Centenary,” the profile
said.
About academics, the guide’s editors write, “Size matters
at Centenary College, where the school’s small student population
allows for an incredible amount of personal attention.”
The Best 357 Colleges (Random House, $21.95) is one of over 200
