Centenary Students Succeed in Competition at Music Festival; Make Presentation at Technology Workshop

SHREVEPORT, LA—Two Centenary music majors won prestigious awards at the Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) New Music Festival at Southwestern University this summer. Competing in the ACS student composition contest, Drew Ley of Bossier City, La., and Laura Daigle of Lafayette, La., both seniors, were awarded second and third place, respectively.

The contest was created to give students from small institutions the opportunity to hear their original compositions performed. Prize winners receive a professional recording of their composition performed by the Luna Nova Ensemble, a high-caliber group of musicians from the Juilliard School and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. According to Daigle, the recordings “will make our portfolios more attractive to prospective graduate schools.”

At another music event, the ACS Technology Workshop, Daigle and ACS’ collaborative coordinator Patricia Gray presented a theoretical analysis using Macromedia Flash animation. Having been well received, Daigle and Gray will present again at the international College Music Society Conference in November.
