FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (12/04) Centenary's Hurley Orchestra Concert to Present Concert Dec. 6 in Anderson AuditoriumSHREVEPORT, LA — The Hurley Orchestra at Centenary College, under the direction of Dr. Todd Gabriel, will present a concert at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, in the Anderson Auditorium of the Hurley Music Building. The program is free and open to the public. The concert will feature piccolo trumpet virtuoso Michael Scarlato performing the Johann Fasch (1688-1758) Concerto in D for Trumpet, 2 oboes, strings and continuo. Now a member of the Hurley School of Music faculty, Scarlato was once a member of "The President's Own" Marine Band. Beginning both halves of the concert are two Italian-style sinfonias from the 18th century. These works by Johann Christian Bach (1735-1782) and Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725) have a lively, style-galant virtuosity. The Hurley Strings are featured with Jean Bapiste Lully's (1632-1687) "Le Ballet des Muses" written for the 24 Violins of the King. Finally, the Hurley Orchestra performs the Suite No. 2 from Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg (1843-1907). - 30 - |
