FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (8/04) Louisiana Film Festival at Centenary Seeking Entries from K-12 StudentsSHREVEPORT, LA- Organizers of the Louisiana Film Festival—Student Division are seeking submissions from kindergarten-12th grade students, with finalists’ works to be showcased at a November film festival promoting the educational qualities of filmmaking. Sponsors of the event are the Louisiana Film Center, Louisiana Public Broadcasting and Centenary College, where the festival will be held Nov. 12 and 13. The Louisiana Film Festival—Student Division event is the state’s first open film festival to exclusively highlight the works of K-12 students. The competition is divided into three categories based on age: elementary (grades K-5); middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12). Students can submit films in a variety of genres, including advertisement, animation, documentary, experimental, narrative and open media. All finalists in the competition will receive certificates of participation, and a cash prize of $250 will be awarded for Best of Festival. Each finalist and prize winner's film will have at least one screening at the Louisiana Film Festival. The Best of Festival will be aired on LPB and a special LPB award will be given at the festival. In addition to the competitive aspect of the festival, students will
also interact with film scholars and professional filmmakers, having the
chance to participate in an interactive filmmaking workshop, said Dr.
Michelle Glaros of Centenary. The final postmark date for regular entries is Sept. 10. A $25 entry fee is required. After Sept. 10, all entries must include a $45 entry fee.
