MARSHALL, Texas (3/10/04)- An East Texas Baptist University student is getting the opportunity of an lifetime as the opening act for contemporary Christian singing duo Shane & Shane in concert at the Gold Dome of Centenary College in Shreveport, La. Dusty Burris, a junior speech communication major, will kick off the concert on Tuesday, March 30, at 6:30 p.m. as Shane Barnard and Shane Everett bring “The Carry Away Tour” to the Ark-La-Tex.

Burris, who has just released his first CD, “Rest in Me,” said, “This is huge. This is more than just opening for a well-known artist. This is a dream come true for sure. Definitely a blessing.”

The 2002 Marshall High School graduate has been writing music since he was 13 and for the last five years has had many opportunities to lead worship in area churches and youth camps. His debut CD is a collection of 12 original works. “Shane and Shane have been my musical inspiration since I was in the ninth grade,” said Burris. “Most of the music I write has been influenced by them.”

Burris will perform a 15-minute set to open the concert. He plans to perform songs from his debut CD. The concert is free to area college students who present a valid student identification card. Ginny Owens and Shaun Groves will also perform.

Burris is a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Marshall where his father serves as pastor.
