5 Centenary Business Students Present Collaborative Research Projects at Federation of Business Disciplines 31st Annual Conference

SHREVEPORT, LA — Five students from Centenary College's Frost School of Business were the only undergraduates presenting papers and speaking among a wide range of scholarly presenters recently at a national confernce in Orlando, Fla.

The five accompanied several members of the Centenary faculty to the 31st annual meeting of the Federation of Business Disciplines. The FBD is one of the largest annual meetings for disciplines common to business administration. The Centenary undergraduates presented their collaborative research projects at the meeting.

Centenary College was the only school bringing undergraduate students to the meeting, said Professor David J. Hoaas of the Frost School of Business. "This is an important and unusual experience for students at the undergraduate level," Hoaas said. "It gives Centenary students an advantage in preparation for graduate school and in presenting competitive applications to the finest of grad schools. I was proud of the fact that our students demonstrated not only their research skills but high quality presentation skills as well."

Those presenting at the FBD meeting were:

• Working with Barbara Davis and Helen Sikes, Adam Dufour of Mansfield, La., presented "Too Many Tables: The Impact of Casino Gaming & Tourism on the Restaurant Industry of Shreveport/Bossier City, Louisiana."
• Also working with Drs. Davis and Sikes, Yao "Henry" Jin of Dallas, Texas, presented "Executive Compensation Structure: A 10-year Analysis of the Fortune 500 Companies."
• Working with Harold Christensen, Esther Seitz of Chatham, Ill., presented "What Causes Obesity? A Regression Analysis."
• Also working with Dr. Christensen, Elliott Grand of Shreveport, La., presented "Religion and Immorality."
• Working with Dr. David J. Hoaas, Lyndsay Bigler of Baytown, Texas, presented "The Relationship Between Tipping and Service Quality: The Other Side of the Equation."
