The Ariel Winds Quintet

SHREVEPORT, LA — On Sunday, March 21 at 3 p.m. Centenary’s Friends of Music Concert Series will present Ariel Winds in the Anderson Auditorium of the Hurley Music Building

Ariel Winds, an all-female quintet of wind players was founded at the Juilliard School in 1998. The players are Adi Menczel, flute; Erin Gustafson, oboe; Anthea Jackson, clarinet; Jennifer Rhodes, bassoon, and Misty Tolle Pereira, horn. They have performed across the United States from California to Connecticut, including appearances at Bass Hall in Fort Worth, the Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival and a Chamber Music America Rural Residency in Stephenville, Texas.

Deeply committed to arts education, Ariel Winds has created a wide array of programs, which they have performed at more than 200 concerts for over 20,000 children. They work regularly through the New York Philharmonic School Partnership Program, Lincoln Center Institute, Chamber Music America, and Young Audiences of New York and Connecticut.

The March 21 Friends of Music program will contain selections in the romantic style by composers Eugene Bozza and August Klughardt; Partita for Wind Quintet by American composer Irving Fine; and Four Spanish Pieces by Spanish composer Manual DeFalla, arranged for winds by Wayne Peterson. Spanning both the 19th and 20th centuries, the music will offer the audience a wide spectrum of material, concentrating on the melodic style of late romanticism.

Ticket prices for the concert are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Patrons may order tickets by calling the Hurley School of Music at 318-869-5235, or by purchasing them at the door to the concert. Admission is free, space permitting, to Centenary College faculty, staff and students with ID.
