Baritone Sterling Allen to Present Senior Recital March 27 in Anderson Auditorium at Centenary College

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary senior Sterling Allen will present his senior recital on Saturday, March 27 at 3 p.m. in the Anderson Auditorium of Centenary’s Hurley Music Building. The recital is free and open to the public.

The program will begin with an aria from Handel’s opera Berenice, then will be followed by selections by Franz Schubert and Maurice Ravel’s Don Quichotte à Dulcinée. The first half will conclude with Mozart’s famous “Madamina” from Don Giovanni. The second half is comprised of art songs by American composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Songs by Samuel Barber and John Duke have been selected to begin the half. The program will conclude with parlor songs composed by Stephen Foster.

Allen, a baritone, can also be seen this weekend with Opera Centenary as Geronimo in Cimerosa’s The Secret Marriage and as bass soloist in Beethoven’s “Mass in C” at First United Methodist Church. In April, he will be the bass soloist in Schubert’s “Mass in G” with the Centenary College Choir.

Allen is a student of Dr. Horace English and is accompanied by Professor Gay Grosz.
