SHREVEPORT, LA — Dr. Scott Vetter, Woolf Professor of Geology at Centenary College, is the recipient of a new award honoring university faculty members who have reached out to K-12 educators and made a difference in their careers.

The Louisiana Science Teachers Association has instituted the award to honor the memory of the late Dr. William W. Craig, professor of geology at the University of New Orleans. Dr. Craig’s influence upon K-12 educators was profound, even though his area of work was that of a research scientist.

LSTA presented the award to Vetter at its 2004 annual meeting Lafayette, La. The W.W. Craig University Educator Award was given to Dr. Vetter for his continuous work over the past 15 years with K-12 science teachers. He has received numerous K-12 professional development grants to help science teachers across the state. With Dr. Vetter’s help, LSTA said, these teachers have influenced tens of thousands of K-12 students in Louisiana.
