Hurley Orchestra Composition Contest at Centenary College Invites High School Students Nationwide to Submit Original Compositions for Orchestra

SHREVEPORT, LA — High school students nationwide have a chance to earn $500 and a half-tuition scholarship renewable for up to four years at Centenary College of Louisiana by entering the Hurley Orchestra Composition Contest.

Second place in the competition will earn for its student composer a one-quarter tuition scholarship. Both the first- and second-place entries will be played by the Hurley Orchestra in concert on Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium. Both winners will receive a recorded copy of the live performance, engineered, edited and preserved on CD, by the Hurley School of Music Recording Studio.

An application form, a $10 fee and a teacher recommendation are due by Dec. 1, with the student composers having until Jan. 10 to submit their orchestral scores. The competition will be judged by Dr. Ronald Bukoff, Dr. Todd Gabriel, Mr. Tom Hundemer and Dr. Douglas Rust of the Centenary music faculty.
