Centenary Announces Walk-A-Thon, Lick-N-Stick Event to Raise Funds for St. Jude's Research, 3-7 p.m. Oct. 1

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College's Student Life Division will host a walk-a-thon and "Lick-N-Stick" benefit event for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on Friday, Oct. 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Cenenary Fitness Center.

The walk-a-thon, which is part of a national collegiate fund-raising campaign called "Up 'Til Dawn," will take place at the College's Fitness Center. It invites people in the Shreveport-Bossier community to support the walk-a-thon either by participating in the walk or sponsoring a participant.

The Lick-N-Stick event involves students, faculty, staff and members of the community, who are asked to participate from 3-7 p.m. and to bring with them 50 names and addresses of friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and business acquaintances. St. Jude provides the letters, envelopes, and postage for the mail that will be addressed and stuffed during the event.

There will be food, music and door prizes. Toiletries are being collected at the door for patients and families of St. Jude's.

Up 'Til Dawn is a fund-raiser led and supported by college students at many campuses nationwide. Centenary hosted its first Up 'Til Dawn fund-raiser in April of 2003. The 2003 event raised a net total of over $7,000 for St. Jude's treatment and research.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is America's fourth largest health care charity. The organization uses all proceeds from fund-raisers, such as Up 'Til Dawn, to continue cancer research and treat patients regardless of whether or not they have insurance.
