This special program will feature Centenary faculty and husband-and-wife violists, Todd and Adrienne Gabriel, performing J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 6. Another Hurley School of Music faculty member, Michael Scarlato, will perform a Baroque concerto for piccolo trumpet by one of Bach’s contemporaries, Johann Fasch.

Todd Gabriel is a graduate of the Juilliard School, LSU Baton Rouge and the University of Arizona. He has been a member of the Alabama, Phoenix, and Queensland (Australia) symphony orchestras. Director of the Hurley Orchestra, Dr. Gabriel is assistant professor of music at Centenary, teaching theory, composition and music history.

Adrienne Moffett Gabriel is a graduate of the New England Conservatory, a member of the Shreveport Symphony and teaches viola and violin for the Centenary Suzuki School and viola at the Hurley School of Music.

Full orchestra performances on the program will also include the Second Symphony of Beethoven, and the world premiere of Pavanne for Orchestra by Michael Alfera, winner of the 2005 Hurley Orchestra Composition Contest for High School Students.

Alfera is a student at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Traverse City, Mich. In addition to having his winning composition premiered by the Hurley Orchestra, Alfera has been awarded $500 and a tuition scholarship from Centenary College.
