Centenary Students Hold Finale of Up 'til Dawn Fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Hospital on April 8

SHREVEPORT, LA —Up ‘til Dawn, a Centenary College student organization that raises funds for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, will hold its finale event of the year on Friday, April 8.

The event is being held in conjunction with Centenary’s Preview Weekend for admitted new students and will serve as both a celebration of the $22,000 Up ‘til Dawn has raised for St. Jude during this academic year and the organization’s final fundraiser for the year.

The finale begins at 6 p.m. with carnival booths and inflatable games on Jones-Rice Field. It will continue in Haynes Gymnasium of the Fitness Center with life-sized Monopoly between 8 and 10 p.m. and a jailhouse fundraiser between 7 and 9 p.m. Jailhouse participants will remain inside the Monopoly board’s jailhouse for half an hour while they call friends for $100 in bail money. This year’s jailbirds include Andy Shehee, a Centenary trustee; Lori Bradshaw, dean of student life, and Mary Sue Rix, director of financial aid.

Centenary students, prospective students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend the event free of charge, though voluntary donations in any amount are welcome. St. Jude patients and employees have also been invited to attend the event.

More On Up ‘til Dawn

Up 'til Dawn is a student-led fund-raising program hosted by colleges and universities nationwide. It unites faculty, students, the community and sponsors in a goal to help the kids at St. Jude. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ensures that families of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases are able to get the medical help they need regardless of ability to pay.

During the 2004-05 academic year, Centenary’s Up ‘til Dawn chapter has organized successful letter-writing campaigns and canning fundraisers at major Shreveport intersections, and has sold songs performed by “Singing Valentine” quartets in order to raise a net amount of over $22,000 for St. Jude.
