Centenary to Present Phyllis Kornfeld Public Slide Lecture on Prison Art on April 14

SHREVEPORT, LA — On Thursday, April 14 from 11-11:50 a.m. in Centenary College's Kilpatrick Auditorium, Phyllis Kornfeld will give a slide lecture on prison art.

Her talk is in conjunction with the Turner Art Gallery exhibit “Liberated Vision: Art from Angola,” which closes the same day. Kornfeld wrote the definitive book on inmate art, Cellblock Visions: Prison Art in America (Princeton University Press), and has curated exhibitions of prison art at over 23 institutions and galleries nationwide.

She has led arts programs at prisons for over 20 years, trained art therapists, lectured at major universities, and published in international journals on the subject.

The program is free and open to the public. Kilpatrick Auditorium is located in the Smith Building at the corner of Kings Highway and Woodlawn Street on the Centenary campus.

For further information, contact Dr. Lisa Nicoletti, associate professor of art and visual culture and director of the Turner Art Gallery, at 318-869-5261.
