FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (4/05) Centenary Senior Elizabeth Coody Wins Alpha Chi's Michael Flachmann 2005 Convention Presentation Prize in Literature
SHREVEPORT, LA — Elizabeth Rae Coody of Shreveport, a senior English major at Centenary College, has earned the Michael Flachmann 2005 Convention Presentation Prize in Literature. The award was presented during the Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Convention April 7-9 in Saint Louis, Mo. Ms. Coody presented the paper “An Education: Changing Little Tree from Humanitarian to Klansman,” which is an exploration of the 1976 novel The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter and its position on the oral narrative. The Michael Flachmann Presentation Prize in Literature was created in honor of Flachmann, the adviser for the California Iota Alpha Chi chapter and the faculty adviser at large for the National Council of Alpha Chi. This award was one of eight competitive awards at the conference and a scholarship was awarded for each recipient. Alpha Chi is a national honor society for college juniors and seniors. The honor society promotes academic excellence and character among college students. Membership in Alpha Chi is limited to the top 10 percent of the junior and senior classes. - 30 - |
