Traditional 'Camp Meeting' Planned for June 6 at Centenary College during Louisiana United Methodist Annual Conference; Community Invited

SHREVEPORT, LA — A traditional “Camp Meeting” with dinner on the grounds will be held at Jones-Rice Field on the Centenary College campus Monday, June 6 during the Louisiana United Methodist Annual Conference. Bishop Kenneth Carder will preach for the casual outdoor service.

"This is an opportunity to celebrate our history in the American Methodist movement. It really goes back to the days of John Wesley and his tradition of field preaching. With our focus on prevenient grace, the Camp Meeting encourages us to revisit our Wesleyan roots," said Mimi McDowell, director of church relations at Centenary and chair of this year's Worship Committee.

The Shreveport community will be invited through the media to share in the service. Those attending annual conference are encouraged to dress casually in picnic clothes for the 7:30 p.m. event. A large tent will provide shelter from possible rain.

Tables will be set up for the enjoyment of "Dinner on the Grounds," which begins at 6 p.m. The meal will cost $10 a person. It is suggested that attendees consider buying an extra ticket and inviting a guest.

Jones-Rice Field is located on the Centenary College Campus off Centenary Boulevard, adjacent to Hardin Hall. See printable campus map.

"It is hoped that this traditional Camp Meeting will be inspiring in its simplicity. Look forward to a lively evening of preaching, praying and singing," said McDowell.
