Outstanding Students Earn Prestigious Scholarships at Centenary College of Louisiana for 2005-06 and Beyond

SHREVEPORT, LA -- One hundred and twenty six incoming students are the recipients of top scholarships at Centenary College of Louisiana this fall.

Five students earned Nancy M. Christian Endowed Scholarships, Centenary’s highest academic award, which recognizes scholarship, leadership and service. They are Saul Castaneda of Dallas, Texas, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School; Kyle Hilliard of Saint Francisville, La., a West Feliciana High School graduate; Aleksandra Kasztalska of Tucson, Ariz., a Catalina Foothills High School graduate; Elinora Madrid of Fort Worth, Texas, a Broad Ripple High School graduate; and BriAnne Owens of Lake Charles, La., a Saint Louis Catholic High School graduate. The Nan Christian Scholarships cover tuition, fees, room and board for four years.

Stephanie Schreiber of Shephenville, Texas, a Stephenville High School graduate, earned the Hurley School of Music’s highest scholarship. She will receive the A.P. and Mary C. White Endowed Scholarship, which is presented to an outstanding and worthy music student. The scholarship covers tuition, fees, room and board for four years.

Naomi Will of Bossier City, La., graduate of Airline High School, was awarded the Willis Munn Herring Memorial Endowed Scholarship, which covers tuition for four years. The scholarship is awarded to a student graduating first, second or third in his or her class in Caddo, Bossier or Webster Parish.

Forty-one high school students from five states are this year’s recipients of 1825 Scholarships. Centenary awards recipients of this scholarship between $10,000 and $14,000 annually. Consideration for the scholarship is given to those who submit a scholarship essay and display strength of high school curriculum, core grade point average, standardized test scores, co-curricular activities and leadership and service roles. Recognizing students who have an ACT of 25 or SAT of 1140 and rank in the top 10 percent of their class or have a weighted grade point average of 3.7, the award amounts to $10,000, renewed annually with the student's maintenance of a 3.0 grade point average. Recognizing students who have an ACT of 26 or SAT of 1180 and rank in the top 11-20 percent of their class or have a weighted grade point average of 3.5, the award amounts to $7,500, renewed annually with the student's maintenance of a 2.5 grade point average.
