Centenary College's Hurley Orchestra Concert Set for Feb. 21 in Anderson Auditorium

SHREVEPORT, LA —The Hurley Orchestra of Centenary College, under the direction of Dr. Todd Gabriel, will perform at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb.21. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Anderson Auditorium in the Hurley Music Building.

The concert will feature four of the school’s most talented students, this year’s winners of the Hurley School of Music Concerto/Aria Contest.

The music faculty will present the following with the honor of performing with the Hurley Orchestra: Billie Harland, baritone, singing an aria from Gaetano Donizetti’s 1832 opera, L’Eliser d’Amore; Daniel Ley, pianist, playing the first movement of the popular Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1; Devon Schmidt, bassoon, playing Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto; and Tim Nicholson, violin, featured in a romantic French Scene de Ballet for violin and orchestra by Charles de Beriot.

Dr. Gabriel will begin the evening by conducting the Hurley Strings in a performance of Adagio for Strings by Lou Harrison.
