FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (1/05) Shreveport Journalism Foundation Awards Scholarships to Students from Centenary College, LSUSSHREVEPORT, LA — The Shreveport Journalism Foundation awarded its two annual scholarships for 2004-05 to students from Centenary College and Louisiana State University in Shreveport. The scholarships are named in memory of two well-known Shreveport journalists, Orland Dodson and Kerry Garland. Kelsey Bellamy Johnson, a Centenary senior formerly from Golden, Texas, received the Kerry Garland Memorial Scholarship. The $1,000 award goes to a college junior or senior with a major in journalism, communications or public relations who has demonstrated outstanding academic ability, writing skill and journalistic potential. Johnson is a communication and French double major at Centenary. A Centenary Public Relations Office intern, editor of a French book and designer of two book covers in the Centenary Heritage Language Project, Johnson is a writer for the Centenary News Service and the designer of three web sites. Nikki Mora, a junior at LSUS, received the Orland Dodson Memorial Award. The $1,000 award goes to a college junior or senior who is majoring in journalism. The award recipient must demonstrate outstanding writing ability, academic performance and journalistic potential. Mora, of Keithville, La., is a mass communications major at LSUS. Her journalistic activities include work as a photographer/reporter and editor-in-chief of the LSUS newspaper, the Almagest.
