President George W. Bush to Visit Centenary March 11 to Discuss Social Security Plan

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary College of Louisiana will be the site March 11 when President George W. Bush brings his plan to overhaul the nation’s Social Security program to Shreveport.

The event will follow a Town Meeting format, with the President expanding upon the plan he unveiled during his State of the Union address last month. The plan includes allowing some Americans to divert some of their Social Security contributions to personal accounts invested in stocks and bonds.

The White House is expected to announce the time and campus location of the event, along with the availability of tickets, by mid-week.

“Centenary is pleased to be the venue when President Bush comes to this area,” said Centenary College President Kenneth L. Schwab. “Though Centenary has hosted a number of distinguished speakers and guests representing various points of view during our 180-year history, we have not hosted a sitting U.S. president. We are pleased to offer President Bush our unique brand of Centenary hospitality and to allow him and his entourage the opportunity to experience Centenary College of Louisiana.”

Among those participating in the discussion will be Rep. Jim McCrery of Louisiana’s 4th congressional district, who is chairman of the House subcommittee that oversees Social Security, and U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.)
