Federation of Business Disciplines Chooses 6 Centenary School of Business Undergraduates for Prestigious Presentations

SHREVEPORT, LA —Six students from Centenary College's Frost School of Business are the only undergraduates in the nation selected to present their research findings at the annual meeting of the Federation of Business Disciplines.

The FBD, which held its 32nd annual meeting in Dallas March 1–5, is recognized as the premier multidisciplinary platform for advancing business knowledge and practice.

Over the past year, each of the six Centenary students has worked collaboratively with Frost faculty to generate a research question, analyze data and interpret the relevance of their findings to the business community.

Economics and French major Aaron Elrod from Little Rock, Ark., presented his paper co-authored with Dr. Harold Christensen on “The Bosman Decision: An Examination of Firm Level Effects.”

Economics and political science major Sarah Bowman, also from Little Rock, presented her paper, co-authored with Dr. Christensen, on “Determinants of Corn Prices: What determines What We Pay for our Food?”

Accounting and business administration major Katherine Willis of Denham Springs, La., presented a paper co-authored with Dr. Kelly Weeks and Dr. Mathew Weeks. Its title was “Where do I fit in? Exploring Adjustment Issues Experienced by Children of Expatriate Employees in Shanghai, China.”

Finance major Henry Jin of Houston, Texas, presented his paper co-authored with Dr. Helen Sikes and Dr. Barbara Davis on “Chinese and American Tax structures: Commonalities, Differences, and Oddities.”

Economics and French major Greg Clarke of London Ontario, Canada, presented his paper co-authored with Dr. David Hoaas on “Festival Economics: The Case of the Red River Revel.”

Business economics and business administration major Anja Schmidt of Gifhorn, Germany, presented her paper, co-authored with Dr. Elizabeth Rankin, on “Assessing the Economic Impact of the Adkins Diet.”

"Such research is central to discovery learning and the liberal arts tradition of Centenary College and the Frost School of Business," said Dr. Christopher Martin, dean of the business school. "It is noteworthy that these six Centenary students were the only undergraduates in the country chosen to present their findings at this prestigious academic conference. I am extremely proud of both the students and their faculty mentors."
