Centenary Forerunners 2005 Spring Forum Series to Address I-49, Conservation, Literature, Youth and More

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Centenary College Forerunners organization has announced its 2005 Spring Forum Series that includes programs focusing on conservation, political and educational issues and literary influences.

The following Monday and Tuesday events will be held on the campus of Centenary College in the R.E. Smith Building's Kilpatrick Auditorium.

David Williams of Centenary will present "The Influence of Christianity in Our Literature" at 1 p.m. Monday, March 21, reviewing Frederick Buechner's Godric and the Book of Bebb, and on Monday, March 28, consider those influences in a selection of short stories by Flannery O'Connor.

Billy Montgomery, Louisiana state representative, District 9-Haughton, will speak at 2 p.m., Monday, March 21, on "A 1-cent Fuel Tax Dedicated to Complete I-49: A Proposal for Louisiana to Consider."

Don McDowell, director of philanthropy for The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana in Baton Rouge, will speak at 2 p.m. March 28 on "Conserving Louisiana's Last Great Places: Our Coastlines and Forests."

Texas educational leader from Lewisville and former Shreveporter Jill Haltom will speak at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at the Randle T. Moore Center, corner of Fairfield Avenue and Kings Highway, on "Engaging the Minds of Our Youth: How to Activate the Minds of the Younger Generation."

The Centenary Forerunners Forum series is presented by the Centenary Forerunners Lifetime Learning Center and is a part of the shor-term, non-credit spring semester currently in progress.
