Centenary Presents Kollege Kapers with Song, Music and Dance from the Jazz & Big Band Era on April 8 & 9; Free and Open to Public

Centenary's Kollege Kapers was a popular touring variety show in the 1940s.

SHREVEPORT, LA — On Friday, April 8 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m., Centenary’s Hurley School of Music will present Kollege Kapers. The show will feature music of the jazz age and big band era, including “It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t got that Swing,”“Roll ‘Em,”“Come Fly with Me,” and “Trolley Song.”

Dr. Doug Rust’s Jazz Ensemble from the Hurley School of Music will lead the program, augmented by string players from the Hurley Orchestra. Singers from Dr. Gale Odom’s Opera Workshop will perform solos and ensembles, and dancers from Ginger Folmer’s Dance Department will spice up the program.

Dr. Will K. Andress will be the emcee for the performance, which aims to evoke the glory days when Kollege Kapers was a touring variety show that traveled throughout the Ark-La-Tex region.

The performances will be in the Anderson Auditorium of the Hurley School of Music at Centenary College. Admission is free and open to the public.
