FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (5/05) Centenary College Hosts Free Economics Workshop for Secondary Teachers on July 12SHREVEPORT, LA-- A free, one-day workshop on “Interest Rates, Energy and the Fed in Today’s Economy” will be held at Centenary College July 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Designed for secondary educators who teach economics and/or social studies, the workshop is open to any teacher in the area, free of charge. Participating teachers will attend workshop presentations to assist them in answering questions about the role of the Federal Reserve in the U. S. economy, how monetary policy works and how energy affects the U.S. economy. There will also be sessions on classroom applications in both energy and monetary economics. In addition to attending the workshop presentations, all participants will receive six professional development credit hours, free curriculum materials and The Fed Today classroom video. A complimentary continental breakfast and lunch will be served. Presenters for the workshop include Stephen P. A. Brown of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Tom Cunningham and Bobbie McCrackin of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and Harold Christensen of Centenary. "This is a rare opportunity for teachers to learn from some of the leading economists within the Federal Reserve System," Christensen said. "Centenary is indeed fortunate to have been selected as a site for this cooperative venture between the two Federal Reserve Banks that each serve a portion of Louisiana.” The workshop is sponsored by the Federal Reserve Banks of Atlanta and Dallas, the Louisiana Council on Economic Education and the Centenary College Center for Economics Education.
