Centenary to Host Dreadmill Multimedia Installation Performance Nov. 8

SHREVEPORT, LA — Dreadmill: Critique, Performance, Installation, Education, a multimedia installation performance, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in Kilpatrick Auditorium at Centenary College.

In a digital culture that demands increasing physical immobility, Dreadmill is an interactive medium that requires the participant to exercise. The participant walks or runs on a treadmill that powers a multimedia display of video, still images, text and graphics with his or her speed and heart rate determining the appearance of the display.

Marcel O'Gorman, one of Dreadmill's developers, will discuss the interrelation of technology and death and will guide participants in an interactive simulation of the Dreadmill. Those who interact with the Dreadmill are challenged to consider the interconnectedness of body and mind, a holistic concept that O'Gorman says has been lost in an information-driven culture.

Sponsored by the Centenary Convocations Committee, this event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit http://www.dreadmill.net/index2.html or contact Dr. Michelle Glaros, assistant professor of art, at mglaros@centenary.edu or 318-869-5264.
