Thursday, Sept. 15

Chief Justice John Marshall said that the United States Constitution was
intended to endure for ages to come. Some contemporary scholars and political
leaders argue that the Constitution should be subject to a stricter construction,
adhering closely to the wording of the text and the original intent of
its framers. As the "supreme law of the land," how the Constitution
is interpreted is important to all citizens, for it is the basis of Supreme
Court decisions involving every important issue, including privacy, censorship,
women's rights, gay marriage and affirmative action.
