Centenary Book Bazaar Sept. 9-10 to Donate Portion of Proceeds to Hurricane Relief

SHREVEPORT, LA — Organizers of the annual Centenary Book Bazaar have announced that the event will be held Friday and Saturday and that a portion of the proceeds will go toward hurricane relief activities.

Amy Giglio of Centenary said that in addition to a share of the profits, the Book Bazaar will have collection cans at cashier stations and bins for canned goods, which attendees are asked to bring to the Gold Dome when they come to the book sale. Cash donated will go to the Red Cross and the canned goods will be taken to the Food Bank.

The 19th annual Centenary Book Bazaar -- with thousands of used books, records, CDs and tapes -- will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday (Sept. 9) and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 10).

Offerings include over 30 categories of books, including bestsellers, encyclopedias, dictionaries, literary classics, novels, textbooks, first editions, rare books and special interest categories. This year, the Bazaar will present over 3,700 children's books, 1,600 cookbooks and 700 science fiction books for sale. In addition, there will be a large selection of new-age literature, books on tape and CD, and large-print books. Many of the books are hardbacks and all are in good condition.

Buyers may interest themselves in the Treasure Chest, where they'll find new books published within the past three years, or they may search for high quality coffee table books in the Jewel Box.

A silent auction will feature 15 rare books. While books will be sold on the main floor of the Gold Dome, over 3,000 vinyl records, including many Hollywood, Broadway and television soundtracks, will be sold by the Centenary music sorority, Sigma Alpha Iota, on the upper level.

The annual sale is sponsored by the Centenary Muses, an organization of Centenary friends.

The book sale has become an annual favorite of book collectors, students and casual readers. Admission is free and book prices start at 25 cents. For further information, contact Book Bazaar headquarters at 318-219-3409 or Ms. Giglio at 318-869-5136.
