Centenary President Issues Advisory to Campus Concerning Hurricane Rita

The following advisory was issued by Centenary College of Louisiana President Kenneth L. Schwab on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005:

To: The Centenary Community

Once again our state and region is threatened by a catastrophic hurricane and Centenary College has recognized the need to provide shelter to the families of our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the college.

Due to the large numbers of evacuees from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, there are few local housing options available. Therefore, we will open our Fitness Center as a roof overhead for Centenary families during this time of need. Those wishing to weather the storm in the Fitness Center should plan to bring their own bedding and supplies. Meals will be available for purchase in the dining hall and at nearby restaurants.

If you have family members or know of someone who wishes to stay in the Fitness Center under these conditions, call the Fitness Center main desk at 318-869-5060 and let them know the evacuees' names, relation to Centenary and the number who will be coming.

For any other questions related to Hurricane Rita, please refer all calls to the Centenary Public Relations Office at 318-869-5120 or 841-7261.

Please take care during the weekend when heavy rains and strong winds are expected here as Hurricane Rita continues inland.

Ken Schwab
President
