Centenary College Partners with Lingnan University in Hong Kong; Forges Exchange Program for Students

Centenary College forges a new study abroad program with Lingnan, a liberal arts university in Hong Kong.

SHREVEPORT, LA – Centenary College President Kenneth L. Schwab has signed an official contract to establish a groundbreaking exchange agreement between Centenary and Lingnan University, a liberal arts university in Hong Kong.

As the first participants in the exchange, a business student from Lingnan will attend Centenary this fall, and a Centenary student plans to travel to Lingnan next spring.

Sue Callaway, director of intercultural affairs at Centenary, says, “This is our first exchange agreement in Asia and a start of a relationship with the Chinese culture, a relationship that we hope will be longlasting.”

In addition to the exchange agreement with Lingnan, Centenary announces its contract renewal with the Universidad de Guanajuato in the colonial Mexican city of Guanajuato, where two Centenary students will study this fall.

Centenary students must complete at least two years of college-level Spanish before commencing study at the Universidad de Guanajuato. However, no knowledge of Chinese is required for study at Lingnan since most classes there are conducted in English.

With most study abroad opportunities for Centenary students, financial aid continues as if the student were at Centenary, with the exception of athletic or other performance-related aid.

Centenary offers other exchange programs with institutions in Denmark, France, Germany and Ireland. Additionally, Centenary students can travel internationally through May Modules, intensive study programs conducted in various locations by Centenary faculty across many disciplines. Even more opportunities are available in connection with British Studies at Oxford, Classical Studies in Rome and study in select francophone countries through the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL).

For more information about study abroad opportunities, contact Sue Callaway, director of intercultural affairs, at 318-869-5702 or international@centenary.edu or go to the Intercultural Affairs web site at http://www.centenary.edu/plan/intercultural/.
