Centenary Alumnus Lorin Anderson

SHREVEPORT, LA – Consultant and former GOLF Magazine managing editor Lorin Anderson will help Centenary College kick off its 2006-07 academic year with an address on Tuesday. Anderson, a 1988 Centenary graduate, will speak at 11 a.m. in Brown Chapel at the college's annual President’s Convocation.

Anderson is a 17-year veteran editor at the world’s largest golf publications and recently launched Lorin Anderson Consulting in Stamford, Conn. Before starting his own firm, he was most recently at Time Warner’s GOLF Magazine as managing editor. He joined GOLF in 1994 as a senior editor after six years as an editor at Golf Digest.

As managing editor he was charged with managing the editorial, public relations and marketing of all of GOLF Magazine’s instruction-related editorial franchises. Anderson has written more than 20 cover stories for GOLF and has authored articles with Jack Nicklaus, Curtis Strange, Payne Stewart, Hal Sutton, Annika Sorenstam and many other touring professionals and dozens of the world’s top teaching professionals. He also coauthored GOLF Magazine’s Complete Book of Golf Instruction.

In recent years, Anderson took on an increased role as the magazine’s lead golf industry analyst, handling more than 60 television appearances covering golf instruction and the professional tours on CBS, NBC, CNN, ESPN and the Golf Channel.

Anderson now runs his own media and golf industry consulting firm specializing in business development, editorial and programming. His clients include a variety of golf-related media involved in magazines, books, television and the Internet.

In addition to Anderson’s address on “The Centenary Experience,” Dr. Darrel Colson, provost and dean of the college, will talk about "Academic Integrity" and President Kenneth L. Schwab will welcome returning students as well as the 240 new first-year students this year.

The annual convocation, held on the second day of fall semester classes, also gives special recognition to this year’s senior class, who will line the bannered walkway to Brown Chapel to applaud the incoming first-year students as they join the campus processional. Seniors will be honored at 10:15 a.m. during a reception on the patio between Magale Library and Mickle Hall.

President's Convocation will also include the anthem “Come Dwell in Solomon’s Walls” by Z. Randall Stroope, sung by the Centenary College Choir under the direction of Dr. Will K. Andress. Organ music will be by Dr. Hollice Watson, presentation of the Honor Code book will be by Courtney Powell and David Pennywell, co-chief justices of the Centenary Honor Court; the invocation will be given by the college’s chaplain, the Rev. Betsy Eaves; and the benediction by William G. Anderson, chairman of the Centenary Board of Trustees.

Leading the processional will be Grand Marshal Earle Labor, George A. Wilson Chair of American Literature, and Faculty Marshal Dr. Jeff Trahan, Cornelius D. and Florence Gillard Keen Professor of Physics and chair of the department.
