Centenary Opens Jones-Rice Field as "Family Zone," Decorates Floats for Highland Mardi Gras Parade Feb. 26

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College will participate for a second time in the Highland Mardi Gras Parade on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m.

With the parade passing in front of the Centenary campus, Centenary will open Jones-Rice Intramural Field for community members to congregate and watch the parade. The area will be designated as a "family zone" with free hot dogs in an alcohol-free environment. Viewing bleachers will be set up along Centenary Blvd, near Centenary's main entrance.

Coordinated by the Centenary Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Relations, nine pick-up truck floats will be organized to join the parade, spelling out each letter in the word "Centenary." Float riders will throw Centenary beads to paradegoers. Centenary faculty, staff, students and alumni will join in the day's activities.

Paradegoers are asked to bring a gently used book or other item to donate to this year's 20th Annual Centenary Book Bazaar, scheduled for Sept. 8-9. There will be a receptacle on Jones-Rice Field for the collection of books. Funds from the bazaar, which is sponsored by the Centenary Muses, go toward student projects and activities that are not covered by the college budget.

The Muses accept books, CDs and videotapes in good condition. Condition is important to the resale value of a book. Not accepted are textbooks over five years old (other than literature and history), Reader's Digest Condensed Books and National Geographic magazines.
