Violist Gabriel, Pianist DeRousse to Present Public Recital March 6 at Centenary College

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College’s Hurley School of Music will present violist Adrienne Gabriel with pianist Cathy DeRousse in a Faculty Recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 6. The recital, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Anderson Auditorium of the Hurley Music Building.

Adrienne Gabriel has been a violist with the Shreveport Symphony since 1989, as well as a member of the Longview Symphony and Shreveport Opera. She has been a guest artist with the Shreveport Symphony, the Northwestern University Orchestra and the Hurley Symphony Orchestra at Centenary College of Louisiana on numerous occasions.

Before coming to Shreveport, she was a member of the Opera Company of Boston, legendary conductor/composer Gunther Schuller’s New England Conservatory Ragtime Ensemble, and Budapest String Quartet first violinist Alexander Schneider’s New York String Orchestra in Carnegie Hall.

Her degrees include a bachelor of music from New England Conservatory of Music, and a viola-performance diploma from the North Carolina School of the Arts.

The program will display a diverse collection of original viola music from the great masters as well as the world premiere of Centenary faculty composer Todd Gabriel’s Suite Adrienne, which was written specifically for this event.

The program will inlcude Allegro appassionato by Frank Bridge (1879-1941), Quatre Visage by Darius Milhaud (1892-1974), Elegy for solo viola by Benjamin Britten (1913-1976); A Bird came down the Walk by Toru Takemitsu (1930-1996) and Suite Adrienne by Todd Gabriel (b.1957).
