Meg Harders: Landscapes and American Standard: Works by Contemporary North Carolina Artists Open at the Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College

North Carolina artist Connie Bostic at work; her artwork and that of five other artists will be on display at Meadows Museum this spring.

SHREVEPORT, LA —The Meadows Museum of Art will open two exhibitions to the public on Sunday, Jan. 22. The exhibitions, Meg Harders: Landscapes and American Standard: Works by Contemporary North Carolina Artists will be on display Jan. 22–March 26 and Jan. 22–April 23, respectively. These exhibitions feature a variety of modern and traditional art types by nationally renowned artists.

American Standard tackles issues in contemporary American society from the concepts of justice to physical appearance. Artists include Connie Bostic, Brenda Coates, Linda Larsen, Marya Roland and Alice Sebrill. In this exhibition, viewers will see a variety of media including sculpture, painting, photograph and printmaking. Visitors will be confronted by Larsen’s delicately balanced scales of justice as well as works by Bostic that depict Freida Kahlo, Gertrude Stein and Eleanor Roosevelt after plastic surgery, the purpose of which has been to make these 20th century icons more closely conform to contemporary ideals of beauty.

American Standard’s focus on ideals purported by American popular culture are counterbalanced by the intimacy and confidentiality of Meg Harders’ works. In her Landscapes collection, this Los Angeles artist presents intricate paintings, the labels for which are journal entries of her daily life during the course of the painting process.
