FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (1/06) SNL's Mr. Bill Creator Visits Centenary Campus for Film Screening, Convocation
SHREVEPORT, LA — Walter Williams, creator of the famous Saturday Night Live animated Play-Doh character Mr. Bill, will visit Centenary College for a film screening on Wednesday, Jan. 18, and convocation on Thursday, Jan. 19. These events are free and open to the public. On Wednesday night, the Centenary Film Society will present Williams' The Natural History of New Orleans, a documentary film, from 7–8:30 p.m. in Carlile Auditorium (Mickle Hall, Room 114). The film explores the natural forces that created New Orleans and now threaten to destroy it. Williams will discuss his work as an animator, documentary filmmaker and coastal wetlands activist on Thursday morning from 11:10 a.m.-noon at a convocation titled, “Mr. Bill Saves New Orleans: Animation, Activism, and Education.” The convocation will be held in Kilpatrick Auditorium of the Smith Building. With a career starting with his Mr. Bill character on Saturday Night Live, Williams went on to create a series of "Pizza Head" commercials for a national Pizza Hut TV campaign. As an animator and director, Williams sees comedy and technology as tools for education. Williams' web site, www.mrbill.com, features links to some of his projects. For more information about these Centenary events, contact Lisa Nicoletti, convocations coordinator, at 318-869-5261 or lnicolet@centenary.edu. - 30 - |
