Centenary's Marjorie Lyons Playouse Presents 'Boy Gets Girl' Beginning March 30

SHREVEPORT, LA — With a name like Boy Gets Girl, the viewer is led to believe this will be a typical two- hour romantic comedy. Boy meets girl. Boy and girl share awkward first date. Boy and girl eventually build a lovely, passionate relationship with a few tiffs along the way. In Rebecca Gilman’s suspenseful thriller, this isn’t the case.

Centenary student Charity Schubert takes on the role of director for this completely student-run production. Schubert has a degree in French and is currently working on a degree in theater. This is her first time to direct a full-length production.

Haley Young takes the lead role as Theresa, a journalist in New York. Young is a junior psychology major and is also working on a minor in theater. Tony, played by Allan Jogiel, is the driving force of the show. Other cast members include Adam Boyd, Jamie Norwood, Miranda Miller (all theater majors) as well as Lizzie Drexler, an undeclared major, and Rob Laha, a returning Centenary student who has recently returned from spending a year and a half in the sands of Baghdad. Miller and Drexler will also serve as property mistresses.

Sophomore Vanna Richardson will join Schubert on the technical team of the production as stage manager. Brigitte Bechtel and Courtney Gaston are the scenic designer and the light designer / technical director, respectively. Rounding out the production team are Centenary students Adam Boyd, Samantha Grace, Nathan Wasson, Sarah Smith, and Curt Youngblood in such areas as sound, costuming, graphic design, video production and photography.

Boy Gets Girl will open on Thursday March 30, and run March 30- April 1 and April 6-8 at 8 p.m. There will also be a matinee performance on Sunday, April 2, at 2 p.m.

The Box Office is now open. General admission will be $5 and admission is free for all Centenary students, faculty and staff. For tickets, call the Box Office at 318-869-5242 between noon and 4 p.m. daily.
