SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary’s Hurley School of Music will present Kollege Kapers, a spirited longtime tradition, Friday, April 21 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. in Marjorie Lyons Playhouse. The show will feature music of the jazz age and big band and swing eras, including “Sentimental Journey,”“It's DeLovely,” "Someone to Watch Over Me," and “Jumpin' Jive.” Admission is free and open to the public.

Dr. Doug Rust's Jazz Band from the Hurley School of Music and Ginger Folmer's dance studio will lead the program, augmented by string players from the Hurley Orchestra. Auditioned student vocalists will perform solos and sing in ensembles, and the audience will be asked to participate in several numbers as spontaneous musicians. Other program highlights include a primarily percussive piece and a Gershwin tap medley choreographed by Ms. Folmer.

In addition to the Jazz Band, Hurley string players and dancers, participating vocalists are Shelly Walker of West Monroe, La.; Lily Thompson of Bossier City, La.; Sam Houston of Houston, Texas; Karen Massey of Pittsburg, Texas; Carrie Collins of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and Heather Nicholls and Amanda Geneux of Shreveport, La.

For more information, contact Dr. Rust at 318-841-7326 or drust@centenary.edu.
