'Centenary Night on the Boardwalk' Set for Friday, Dec. 8 Offering Music, Activities, Discounts and More

SHREVEPORT, LA — An evening of music, song, dining, shopping, one-act plays, health-screenings, movies and more is planned for Friday, Dec. 8 when the Centenary Fitness Center sponsors the first "Centenary Night on the Boardwalk." The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Louisiana Boardwalk, on the Bossier City side of the Red River.

"We plan to turn the Boardwalk maroon," said Fitness Center Mike Thomas, who's working now to promote the event and the Centenary Fitness Center via several activities, including free movie passes to anyone who works out at the center at least once before the event.

The Fitness Center will give away five $100 Boardwalk gift certificates to those who have worked out and who attend either the Ladies or Gents basketball game on Nov. 30 in the Gold Dome.

In addition, selected Boardwalk merchants will offer discounts to attendees showing a Centenary ID card and a range of Centenary-related activities will be visible throughout the streets of the Boardwalk. Alumni and friends of the college are also encouraged to wear maroon and attend to hear the Centenary College Choir sing and to enjoy the evening with students, faculty and staff, Thomas said.

Although the final schedule is yet to be completed, some of the activities at "Centenary Night on the Boardwalk" will be:

  • Seasonal music by the Centenary College Choir in front of the Boardwalk's 40-foot Christmas tree
  • A live "snow storm" in the entertainment zone
  • Music by the Centenary String Quartet
  • One-act plays by the Department of Theatre and Dance, coordinated by senior Haley Young
  • Health screenings and shoulder massages
  • Gift wrapping to benefit student organizations' charitable causes
  • Toy collection for needy children
  • Late-evening movie passes to Boardwalk 14 Cinemas for those who exercise at the Fitness Center
  • Boardwalk merchants offering discounts to those with Centenary ID cards. See list of discounts .
