Centenary College Chamber Winds Public Concert Nov. 8 to Feature Schubert, Von Weber Pieces

SHREVEPORT, LA —The Centenary College Chamber Winds will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 in Anderson Auditorium at the Hurley Music Building. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Chamber Winds ensemble is a one-on-a-part performing group that is comprised of students from the Wind Ensemble. The concert fare includes Franz Schubert's Little Symphony for Winds, a very accessible and charming four-movement work assembled and arranged by Verne Reynolds.

The second half of the performance features an arrangement by Conductor Thomas Stone. On Themes of Weber is a four-movement composition taken from the music of the Romantic German composer Carl Maria von Weber. These movements were selected by 20th Century composer Paul Hindemith to be the subject of his Symphonic Metamorphosis, in which guise most concertgoers would recognize the themes.

Stone's arrangement recalls the original Weber pieces, unadorned by Hindemith's latter-day brushstrokes. "These challenging works are interesting to hear and showcase the talented students who will perform them so ably," Stone said.
