FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (11/06) Centenary’s Education Department to Seek National Accreditation; Centenary Community Invited to Exhibition Nov. 11SHREVEPORT, LA — The Centenary Education Department will lead an effort to gain national accreditation from the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) during its upcoming Board of Examiners accreditation visit, Nov. 11–15. The visiting NCATE Board of Examiners will consist of five national members and four state members plus a state representative, who will visit campus assessing the educational programs offered at Centenary. In addition to the Institutional Report (previously submitted), team members will have access to extensive documents (handbooks, catalogs, brochures and other published documents) that describe the unit and its programs. BOE members will also examine the institution and/or unit web site prior to the visit. The team members will read the Institutional Report, analyze the evidence, interview the Shreveport/Bossier City and Centenary communities, visit Centenary’s Professional Development Schools (Stoner Hill Elementary School, Youree Drive Middle School and Byrd High School) and write an evaluation based upon NCATE standards. In conjunction with NCATE's visit, the Centenary community is invited to attend "An Educational Affair: An Exhibition of Educational Opportunities" Saturday, Nov. 11 from 6–7:30 p.m. in the Whited Room of Bynum Commons.
