SHREVEPORT, LA — The singers of the Centenary College Camerata will give a benefit concert at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26 in Brown Memorial Chapel. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any Camerata member or at the door. One-hundred percent of proceeds will go toward Camerata's trip to sing at Carnegie Hall in February.

Camerata's program will begin with "Sicut Cervus" by Palestrina; "Daemon Irrepit Callidus" by Gyorgy Orban; "Salve Regina" by Giovanni Legrenzie with David Pennywell on cello; "Sleep" by Eric Whitacre; and "Laudamus te" from Francis Poulenc's Gloria.

After a brief intermission, Camerata will commence with the second half of the program, performing selections from West Side Story; "Two American Folk Hymns" arranged by Ronald Staheli; and "Two American Folk Songs" with Tim Nicholson on violin, arranged by Centenary's music adjunct professor Cathy DeRousse. The program will close with Donald Patriquin's "J’entends le Moulin," a French folk tune.

Soloists include Nancy Carey, soprano; Emma Cook, alto; Brett Bello, tenor; Sam Houston, tenor; Billie Harland, tenor; Adam Philley, baritone; and Michael Rafferty, baritone.

Directed by Dr. Julia Thorn and accompanied by faculty pianist Gay Grosz, the 55-voice Hurley School of Music ensemble will be selling a 2-CD "Celebrations" collection of the best of Camerata, Chorale and Cantare, including holiday selections and classic repertoire. The CD set will be sold for $20, with all proceeds going to the fundraising effort.

Camerata will also hold a Messiah Sing-Along Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. in Brown Memorial Chapel. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any Camerata member or at the door.

"The students are excited about this opportunity, so they're willing and motivated to work hard to get there," Thorn says. "We need Camerata alumni and all of the regular concert attendees to rally support in order to make this once-in-a-lifetime experience happen."

For more information, contact Dr. Thorn at 318-869-5175 or the Hurley School of Music office at 318-869-5235. Financial contributions should be arranged with Centenary’s Office of Development at 318-869-5106.
