Centenary Athletic Director Taylor Moore Resigns Effective Oct. 31; Coach Glenn Evans to Serve as Interim AD

SHREVEPORT, LA – Centenary College Athletic Director Taylor F. Moore has decided to leave his position effective Oct. 31, Centenary President Kenneth L. Schwab announced today (Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006). Moore, formerly self-employed in investments and real estate development and management, will return to those duties and will assist with family business interests.

Schwab has appointed Glenn Evans, assistant coach of women’s soccer and director of the athletic academic center, to serve as interim Athletic Director while a search is conducted for a permanent replacement. Evans previously served as head baseball coach and head of both the men's and women's soccer teams. He is a native of Herkimer, N.Y., who earned a B.S. from Centenary in 1969 and a M.Ed. from the University of Georgia in 1970.

Schwab praised the work that Moore has done during his three and a half years as Athletic Director and said that Moore’s unique combination of management skills and personal knowledge of Centenary athletics will be sorely missed. “Taylor Moore is an alumnus, a great AD and a personal friend. His service on behalf of Centenary has been exemplary,” Schwab said.

Moore said, "It has been a pleasure to work for Centenary these past three years. I could not have asked for better support than that offered by Ken Schwab and the other members of his executive staff. Centenary College is a very special place. From the students, to the faculty and staff, there is a tremendous level of enthusiasm and a true desire to excel. I will miss the relationships and look forward to attending events and following the success of the various teams."

Evans said, "Taylor Moore has done a wonderful job. Hopefully I can continue to keep the ball rolling that Taylor started. He's leaving some very big shoes to fill...I will give Centenary everything I've got." Evans noted that his major goal is related to ever-increasing rates of graduation for student athletes.

Moore joined Centenary as AD on July 1, 2003, four years after the college left the Trans America Athletic Conference and just as it joined the Mid-Continent Athletic Conference, with conference play beginning in fall 2003. Since becoming director of athletics, Moore has improved several facets of the overall program. He led the charge in reinventing the booster club and transformed it into the healthy organization it is today, known as the C Club. Under his guidance, renovations to the Mayo Soccer Complex and Shehee Baseball Stadium have taken place and other facilities improvements are under way. In addition, supplemental staff, such as assistant coaches, have been added.

A 1969 Centenary graduate and former Centenary baseball coach, Moore was president and majority owner of Shreveport Baseball, Inc., which operated the Shreveport Captains Baseball Club, until he sold the franchise in 2000. The Captains were a AA professional baseball club affiliated with the San Francisco Giants. Long active with Centenary, Moore was formerly a member and officer of the Centenary Board of Trustees.
