RECENT NEWS AND EVENTS

CAMERATA RECEIVES EXCLUSIVE INVITATION TO SING AT CARNEGIE HALL in February. Selected as the core choir to perform Poulenc's Gloria with the New York City Chamber Orchestra, the group will be raising funds for the trip through concerts, CD sales and a letter-writing campaign. 20TH ANNUAL BOOK BAZAAR BRINGS IN OVER $47,500, a record amount from which the Centenary Muses will allocate funds for Centenary projects.

MEADOWS MUSEUM WILL THROW AN ART GALA FUNDRAISER Sunday, Oct. 8 at Ernest's Orleans Restaurant with special guest George Roland, owner of "Louisiana Collects: Paperworks from the Roland-Geist Collection of New Orleans."   • Department of Public Safety:The (Shreveport) Times and KTBS Channel 3 News highlighted a crime awareness program that DPS puts on every year. Geared for females heading off to college, the crime awareness program had about 25 in attendance.

  • Associate Professor of Sociology Dr. Michelle Wolkomir: Wolkomir was named one of two winners of the inaugural Distinguished Book Award from the American Sociological Association’s Section on the Sociology of Sexualities for her book Be Not Deceived: The Sacred and Sexual Struggles of Gay and Ex-gay Christian Men (Rutgers University Press, 2006).
