Shark, Stingray Attack Authority to Speak Feb. 15 at Centenary College

SHREVEPORT, LA — Students and others who want to avoid shark and stingray attacks during Spring Break will likely be in the audience at a public convocation Thursday , Feb. 15 at Centenary College.

"Sharks, Skates and Rays" will be the topic when the Centenary Convocations Committee and the Wilderness Club present biology professor Dr. Glenn Parsons. His public lecture will be at 11 a.m. in Kilpatrick Auditorium of the Smith Building. It is free and open to the public.

Parsons is an associate professor of biology at the University of Mississippi, where he studies sharks, skates and rays. He is the author of "Sharks, Skates, and Rays of the Gulf of Mexico: a Field Guide." Among his other publications are "Shark Nursery Grounds and The Reproduction and Development of Sharks, Skates, and Rays." He has also published journal articles in Marine Biology and the Journal of Experimental Biology.

As part of his talk, he will explain how to prevent a shark attack and how to treat a wound inflicted by a stingray.
