Sigma Alpha Iota at Centenary Sponsors Instrument and Music Drive for Those in Need

SHREVEPORT, LA. — Members of Centenary College chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, honorary music organization, are sponsoring an instrument and music drive to benefit students and musicians in developing countries and disaster-stricken areas.

SAI, the international music fraternity and honor society, has created the People-to-People Project, a philanthropy program that provides material assistance and encouragement to schools, music organizations and musicians both in the United States and overseas. In the past, the People-to-People Project has made donations to schools in Haiti, China and the Philippines, and more recently to schools devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the U.S, including those in New Orleans.

Sigma Alpha Iota is asking for donations of music, books, musical instruments, solid-backed music stands and other materials. Members say their main need is for new or used instruments that can be donated for use or for the funding to purchase instruments.

The donation drive will continue through April. Large and small donations are sought and can be dropped off at the Hurley Music Building on Centenary's campus. For more information, contact Shelly Walker at email.
