Ministry Conference to Focus on Lay People

A conference to help congregations mobilize lay people will be held Jan. 18-19 at First United Methodist Church, Head of Texas Street in Shreveport.

Sponsored by the Christian Leadership Center at Centenary College, Every Member in Ministry will be led by the Rev. John Ed Mathison, of Montgomery, Ala. He is senior pastor of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church, which has an attendance of about 5,000. Of those, 90 percent volunteered for specific ministries in 2007.

Mathison will discuss his approach to ministry. Topics to be covered include discipleship, contemporary worship, new member involvement, urban ministry and other specific ministry areas.

The conference will begin at 5 p.m. Jan. 18. It will continue from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 19.
