ASPCA Names Mascot "Success Story of the Week"

SHREVEPORT, La.—The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has named Skeeter, Centenary College's new mascot, as their "Success Story of the Week: Class Act!" in their February 22 Electronic News Alert.

"I thought this was a really cool story when it was forwarded to me," said Michele Farbman,
ASPCA Assistant Editor. "Skeeter really deserves the love and fame he is receiving."

According to Farbman, the electronic News Alert is sent to at least 550,000 people across the country and around the world. "What makes this special is Skeeter's story and how he became our mascot," said Rick DelaHaya, Director of Marketing & Communication at the College. "With the help of the rescue shelter in Houston, his life has really changed. You can tell he enjoys being here on campus and all the attention he receives. He is our newest ambassador."

Skeeter became the College's mascot after students, faculty, and staff voted on the Catahoula Leopard Dog to be the mascot, which complements the "Ladies" and "Gents." After an extensive search around the Shreveport-Bossier area, Skeeter was found waiting for adoption at the Citizens for Animal Protection animal shelter in Houston. On December 6, 2007, Skeeter was introduced to the student body and fans during halftime of the Gents basketball game.
