Centenary to Award Diplomas May 10 during 2008 Commencement in Gold Dome

SHREVEPORT, La.— Centenary College of Louisiana will award 236 diplomas Saturday, May 10 during the college's annual commencement ceremonies at 10:30 a.m. in the Gold Dome. Lieutenant General Robert J. Elder Jr., Commander, 8th Air Force, Barksdale Air Force Base, La., and Joint Functional Component Commander for Global Strike and Integration, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt AFB, Neb., will deliver the commencement address.

Candidates for degree include 195 students earning bachelor's degrees and 39 receiving master's degrees in education or business. Twenty-four students will graduate summa cum laude, having earned grade point averages of 3.9 or higher. Thirty-four students earned the magna cum laude designation, with 3.7 to 3.89 GPAs, and 30 achieved cum laude status, having 3.5 to 3.69 GPAs.

Honorary doctorates will be awarded to Lt. Gen. Elder, as well as Ira Lee Morgan, Emeritus Professor of English and historian of Centenary College.

About Centenary College of Louisiana

Centenary College is a private, four-year arts and sciences college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1825, it is the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
