SHREVEPORT, La.— A book signing and discussion of The Migraine Brain: Your Breakthrough Guide to Fewer Headaches, Better Health, co-authored by Elaine McArdle, will take place Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Symphony House, located on the Centenary College campus across from the Hurley School of Music, from 5 until 7 p.m.

McArdle will be on hand to autograph her first book, which she has co-authored with Harvard neurologist Dr. Carolyn Bernstein, M.D., and to discuss that migraines are a disease that sufferers can get control of, improve, and manage.

One in 10 Americans suffers from migraines, more than those with asthma or diabetes. The evening event will host a discussion that explains why migraines happen and what can be done to reduce the number and severity of their attacks. The dialogue will also tackle the breakthrough medical knowledge that makes treatment and recovery even more effective with new migraine-specific drugs as well as with complementary treatments such as yoga, biofeedback, and an exercise regimen.

The Migraine Brain

McArdle, a 1979 graduate of Centenary College and a 1983 graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, has been a staff reporter and editor for a number of newspapers including a national legal paper, Lawyers Weekly USA. She now lives outside Boston and freelances for the Boston Globe, Boston Globe Magazine, Boston Magazine, and many other publications. The Migraine Brain, released in September by Free Press (a division of Simon and Schuster), was featured two weeks ago on The Today Show when Dr. Bernstein was interviewed by Matt Lauer.

Praised for her excellence and compassion, the founder of the Women's Headache Center near Boston, and a migraine sufferer herself, Dr. Bernstein has helped hundreds of her patients get better. Now, with The Migraine Brain, the most comprehensive, up-to-the-minute book on migraines ever written, those who suffer migraines will be able to do the same — reduce the frequency and intensity of migraines, learn how to prevent and curtail them and how to recover from them more quickly, and mitigate migraine's effects on every aspect of life. Every migraine is different because everyone who gets a migraine has a distinctive "Migraine Brain" with its own sensitivities and triggers. That's why it's so important to develop a personalized wellness plan to radically reduce the number and severity of your migraines, the book explains.
