Rhapsody in View 2008 Takes Place Nov. 1 / 2 at Riverview Theatre
SHREVEPORT, La.— The Centenary Choir's annual "Rhapsody in View" concert takes place Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m. at the Riverview Theatre (formerly known as Shreveport Civic Theatre) in Shreveport.
The Program marks the 60th Annual Rhapsody in View and features a variety of pieces showcasing the choir's unique stylistic diversity. Selections include movements from Mozart's Requiem, the jazz music of Dave Brubeck, and a wide array of spirituals, hymn arrangements, patriotic music, and other sacred and secular pieces.
This event also marks one of the culminating Centenary celebrations of the College's 100th anniversary in Shreveport. The concert features the premier of Choir Alumnus James Eakin's Beauty in the Flood, composed specifically for the Centennial. The work is a setting of a poem penned by fellow Centenary alumnus and current faculty member Jennifer Strange.
Tickets ($10 in advance, $12 at the door) are now available from members of the choir, The Hurley School of Music (318-869-5235), Southfield Music & Tapes, all Porter's Cleaners locations, and the Downtown Shreveport Lions Club.
Also on Saturday, November 1, Choir members will hold an open house in the Choir Room on campus from noon until 2 p.m. for friends, alumni, and families. The College will hold a reception 6-7:15 p.m. Saturday night before the concert in the lobby of the Riverview Theatre for Centenary alumni and friends as well.
