Centenary's Hurley School of Music Announces November Concert Schedule

SHREVEPORT, La. — Centenary's Hurley School of Music anticipates an exciting month of various concerts and recitals. From orchestra concerts and recitals, to chamber winds and jazz, there will be a wide variety of concerts for all music lovers. Unless otherwise noted, events will take place in the Anderson Auditorium in the Hurley School of Music Building.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Concerts are subject to change. Please call the Hurley School of Music at 318-869-5235 to verify dates.

  • Tuesday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m.
    Hurley Orchestra Concert
  • Friday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m.
    Camerata Concert

The program represents a wide range of styles including both Bach and a contemporary arrangement of that composer which is individually expressed in improvisational style, several contemporary sacred anthems, the humorous and whimsical "Animal Crackers" and will conclude with the rousing spiritual, Wade in De Water.

In addition, Chorale, the chamber group selected out of Camerata, will sing a featured part of the program entitled Unicornis Captivatur (the unicorn is captured), taken from a compilation of medieval chants and filled with colorful symbolism.

  • Monday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m.
    Centenary Jazz Ensemble Concert
    This concert will feature a full program of jazz standards featuring the saxophone section including "A Foggy Day," "Woodchopper's Ball," "Fly Me to the Moon'" and many others. The concert is free and open to the public.

About Hurley School of Music

Hurley School of music is a professional music school within a liberal arts college, and has as its mission the training and development of undergraduate music students in the Bachelor of Music and the Bachelor of Arts curricula. The School of Music is an integral part of Centenary College and embraces and affirms the college's liberal arts philosophy, while at the same time supporting the intensive specialization required for the Bachelor of Music degree. It provides opportunities for all segments of the college and the community to experience the art of music through class offerings, applied music study, ensemble participation and the presentation of concerts.
